Basic Calculator

This free online calculator works just like a standard handheld calculator and includes full memory functionality. You can perform basic math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division directly in your browser.

In addition to standard arithmetic, the calculator supports advanced functions including square root, percentages, pi (π), exponents, powers, and rounding (to whole numbers or two decimals). It also allows repeating operations and includes higher-power and root calculations, as well as easy-to-use memory buttons (MC, MR, M+, M−) and clear options (AC and CE). Detailed instructions for using each function on this calculator are provided below.

You can operate the calculator using your mouse, keyboard, number pad, or by touch on supported devices, making it convenient for desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile users.

Basic Calculator Operations Guide

Explore step-by-step example calculations using the Basic Calculator. This guide shows you exactly how to enter numbers, use operator buttons, and perform common math functions. You’ll learn how to solve simple arithmetic problems, calculate percentages, and perform more advanced financial operations such as present value (PV) and future value (FV) directly on the calculator.

Advanced Percentage Calculations
Calculations Steps
List Price + Sales Tax = Final Price Sales Tax Addition
List Price = 35.25, Tax Percentage = 7.5%
35.25 + (35.25 x 0.075) = 37.89
35.25 + 2.64375 = 37.89
35.25 + 7.5 %
(display is tax dollar amount 2.64375)
= R2
(display is final price 37.89)
List Price - Discount = Sale Price Discount Subtraction
List Price = 40, Discount Percentage = 25%
40.00 - (40.00 × 0.025) = 30.00
40.00 - 10.00 = 30.00
Now add the 7.5% sales tax
30.00 + (30.00 × 0.075) = 32.25
40 − 25 %
(display is discount dollar amount 10)
= R2
(display is sale price 30.00)
+ 7.5 % = R2

How to Use the Calculator Memory

The calculator’s memory always starts at 0. You can store and update values using the M+, M-, MR, and MC keys:

  • M+ (Memory Plus) – Adds the number currently shown on the display to the value stored in memory.

  • M- (Memory Minus) – Subtracts the displayed number from the memory value.

  • MR (Memory Recall) – Shows the current number stored in memory on the display.

  • MC (Memory Clear) – Resets the calculator’s memory back to zero.

Use these buttons when you want to keep track of running totals without writing anything down.

For clearing the screen:

  • AC (All Clear) fully resets the calculator and removes your entire calculation.

  • CE (Clear Entry) removes only the most recent number you typed, without deleting the rest of your equation.

If the AC button isn’t visible, press CE once and the button will switch back to AC, allowing you to completely clear the calculator.
